Blessing Yourself with Love

If you’ve happened to click the link to my unrelated travel blog in the sidebar, you’ve probably noticed I try to be very body positive. This is an ongoing struggle for me since I was severely bullied in middle school for my appearance, but I’ve realized over the years just how important self-love is. We’re rarely happy with ourselves, and often find something to criticize when our loved ones don’t even notice the things that bother us the most when we look in the mirror.

We make the decision to love ourselves, and we can make changes in our daily lives that can help. For starters, I seek out positive images and quotes that serve as inspiration and affirmations. I try to ignore negative conversations about body image, which can be difficult to do online, but not impossible. There are lots of little changes you can make if you’re struggling with self-hatred. Focus on something you love about yourself. Embrace a hobby you know you’d be good at. Take time out of your day to just be alone with your thoughts, whether you’re enjoying a cup of tea in the early morning or sitting down to meditate at the end of the day.

While meditation isn’t my strong suit, a self-love meditation can be powerful. If you don’t have a go-to meditation method, try a heart chakra meditation like this one, which is great for nurturing self-acceptance. Then, slowly recite the following blessing, which was inspired by the “Ritual for Self-Love” at Wiccan Spells. Be sure to feel each word in your soul.

Self-Love Blessing

The Universe radiates love in abundance.
There is abundant love in me.
I am the stuff of stardust, an eternal soul,
Important and beloved for my place in this world.
I seek guidance to find my path.
I seek clarity to see my worth.
I am a Divine being, worthy of love,
And I love myself for who I am.
So mote it be (or So must it be/So will it be/Amen/etc.)

You can also recite these words when simply lighting a candle, or when getting ready for your day. It doesn’t have to be a lengthy ritual. What’s important is the ongoing reminder that you are unique and wonderful in this Universe! Don’t ever forget that!

If you like these blessings I’ve been rewriting to suit a pantheist’s pagan practice, please give this post a like or let me know in the comments so I can keep them coming!
